Hi and welcome to our site! I began this journey when I saw an unmet need in employment opportunities. I have a son who was diagnosed with developmental disabilities when he turned 4 years old. We were told by doctors, at the time, that he would never be able to do and accomplish a lot of the hopes and dreams that every parent has for their children. He has worked hard to prove every “he’ll nevers” ultimately wrong. While he was looking for jobs, he would constantly tell me that he did not think he could perform most of the jobs that I put in front of him. I never wanted to push, but I started to ask “Why?” more and he would tell me that he did not even know what the job often was.
The job descriptions were the barrier.
The 250 - 1000 word job descriptions are actually excluding perfectly capable candidates, because they were not plain spoken, clear, and oftentimes understandable.
“What if you could see that job?”
“Then I would know if I could do it or if I wanted to!”
65% of all current students say that they are visual learners, but the jobs they are applying for have a text-based job description.
Similarly, veterans with PTSD often do not apply for jobs in an unfamiliar environment, because of potential concerns. What if they could see the environment that they would be performing their job in prior to submitting a resume or application?
Could that person end up being your best employee?
Can we bridge the gap?
I believe that Show Me That Job can!
